Crude Oil is decomposed organic matter which has been subjected to intense heat and pressure, formed in reservoirs deep in the earth. Once located the oil is extracted with pumps and transported via pipelines, ships, rail, or trucks to a refinery for processing. Firstly gas is extracted, then water is separated from the oil and finally any sand is filtered out. The refining process produces gasoline, diesel, jetfuel and asphalt. Oil is also used to make plastics and petrochemicals.
